Transgender MTF Hair Loss Treatment OptionsWhile estrogen hormone replacement therapy will aid in slowing and stopping hair loss, it cannot promote hair growth. If you have already experienced hair loss and would like to regrow what you've lost, there are several treatment options for MTF patients including medication, laser comb, and hair transplant surgery. Rogaine (Minoxidil)Rogaine is available in a solution or foam and is clinically proven to regrow hair in 85% of men who use it twice daily. It contains the FDA-approved topical ingredient minoxidil which works to enlarge shrunken hair follicles and promote normal healthy hair growth over time. Rogaine is available without a prescription from a doctor and generic forms with the same active ingredient are available at most pharmacies. Minoxidil must be applied twice daily to the hair loss area. Results may be seen as early as 2 months, but most men see results in 4 months. If you do not see any results after 4 months, you should consult your doctor. Common side effects of Minoxidil are dry, itchy scalp, and facial hair growth. These side effects will usually disappear with discontinued use of Minoxidil. Some men may experience an increase in hair shedding for the first 2 weeks, however this shedding is only temporary and is caused by the new hairs pushing out the weaker hairs. If shedding continues beyond 2 weeks, please consult your doctor. For many men, minoxidil is the best first step toward preventing and reversing hair loss because it is relatively less expensive compared to other hair loss treatments and has less side effects. Call to schedule your free consultation to see if Minoxidil is right for you. HairMax Laser CombThe HairMax Laser Comb provides a safe, convenient and non invasive way to stop hair loss and promote hair growth! Using laser energy, the comb stimulates hair follicles to improve growth speed and hair thickness. The HairMax Laser Comb is available without a prescription and is an effective way to fight hair loss. It only requires three 15-minute treatments per week to see results. Some users will see results in just 8 weeks of use, and 90% will see results in 16 weeks. The HairMax Laser Comb only be used to people treat certain types of hair loss and skin types. Call to schedule your free consultation to see if the HairMax Laser Comb is right for you. Hair Transplant SurgeryFor many, hair transplant surgery is the most effective way to treat hair loss. While hair transplant surgery may be more expensive initially, the overall results are better and more permanent. Medications and the laser comb require continued usage or the regrown hair will fall out 3-4 months after discontinued use.
