Male Hair Loss Treatment OptionsWant to prevent hair loss? Want to regrow what you've lost? There are several ways of treating hair loss in men including medication, laser comb, and hair transplant surgery. Rogaine (Minoxidil)Rogaine is available in a solution or foam and is clinically proven to regrow hair in 85% of men who use it twice daily. It contains the FDA-approved topical ingredient minoxidil which works to enlarge shrunken hair follicles and promote normal healthy hair growth over time. Rogaine is available without a prescription from a doctor and generic forms with the same active ingredient are available at most pharmacies. Minoxidil must be applied twice daily to the hair loss area. Results may be seen as early as 2 months, but most men see results in 4 months. If you do not see any results after 4 months, you should consult your doctor. Common side effects of Minoxidil are dry, itchy scalp, and facial hair growth. These side effects will usually disappear with discontinued use of Minoxidil. Some men may experience an increase in hair shedding for the first 2 weeks, however this shedding is only temporary and is caused by the new hairs pushing out the weaker hairs. If shedding continues beyond 2 weeks, please consult your doctor. For many men, minoxidil is the best first step toward preventing and reversing hair loss because it is relatively less expensive compared to other hair loss treatments and has less side effects. Call to schedule your free consultation to see if Minoxidil is right for you. Propecia (Finasteride)Propecia is a one-a-day pill that is approved by the FDA for the treatment of certain types of male pattern hair loss in men. Finasteride, the active ingredient in Propecia significantly reduces DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), a key cause of hair loss, by inhibiting the formation of DHT in your scalp. Propecia is only available with a prescription from a doctor. Propecia must be taken daily. Results may be seen as early as 3 months, but most men see results in 6 months. It is important to continue to take Propecia for at least 12 months to judge how well it's working for you. If you do not see improvement after 12 months, please consult your doctor. Possible side effects of Propecia are a decrease in sexual drive, difficulty achieving an erection, and a decrease in the amount of semen. These side effects occurred in less than 2% of the men taking Propecia. Other side effects may include: allergic reactions including rash, itching, hives, and swelling of the face and lips; problems with ejaculation; breast tenderness and enlargement; and testicular pain. You should immediately report any changes in your breasts such as lumps, pain, or nipple discharge to your doctor. Tell your doctor about these or any other side effects that you experience while taking Propecia. Call to schedule your free consultation to see if Propecia is right for you. HairMax Laser CombThe HairMax Laser Comb provides a safe, convenient and non invasive way to stop hair loss and promote hair growth! The HairMax Laser Comb is available without a prescription and is an effective way to fight hair loss. It only requires three 15-minute treatments per week to see results. Some users will see results in just 8 weeks of use, and 90% will see results in 16 weeks. The HairMax Laser Comb only be used to people treat certain types of hair loss and skin types.
