Rogaine for Women contains 2% Minoxidil which is the only FDA approved drug clinically proven to regrow hair for women. The solution is applied twice daily to the affected area and works by enlarging shrunken hair follicles. This promotes normal healthy hair growth over time. Rogaine is available without a prescription from a doctor and generic forms with the same active ingredient are available at most pharmacies. The recommended Minoxidil dose for women is the 2% solution, which differs from the 5% solution for men. The women's formula contains less Minoxidil than the men's formula because a small percentage of women grow facial hair with the higher dose.

Results may be seen as early as 4 months. If you do not see any results after 4 months, you should consult your doctor. Common side effects of Minoxidil are dry, itchy scalp, and facial hair growth. These side effects will usually disappear with discontinued use of Minoxidil. Some women may experience an increase in hair shedding for the first 2 weeks, however this shedding is only temporary and is caused by the new hairs pushing out the weaker hairs.
